Job Summary: Maintains repairs and constructs hospital buildings, structures and furniture built of a wide variety of materials to ensure good appearance and optimal functioning.
Reports to: Carpentry Foreman.
Maintains and repairs structures such as walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture utilizing necessary power and hand tools in order to fulfill customer requests and maintain good appearance and function.
Designs and constructs structures such as cabinets, doors, furniture, and offices utilizing knowledge of the carpentry trade, tools (i.
e.
measuring, drilling, finishing, etc.
) in order to meet the needs of customer departments in accordance with the blueprint.
Installs locks by measuring, drilling, and mounting locking devices in order to assist departments in maintaining security.
Some, but not all of these positions determine types and amounts of materials and labor needed to complete projects by formulating plans and sketches so cost can be estimated and/or supplies ordered.
Completes work reports according to department procedures so appropriate records are maintained.
Works effectively as a team member within the department and with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation, and collaboration.
Qualifications High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
Trade school is preferred.
Five years of institutional carpentry experience required.
Demonstrated ability to read blue prints required.
Proficiency in all carpentry skills.
OR Minimum of fifteen years of carpentry experience with demonstrated ability to read blue prints in place of high school degree or GED.
